Gender as Critical Thinking:
Work, Nation, Body, May 17th-19th 2017 – Cresppa, Paris 8
The aim of this international symposium is to present the full range of research on gender at the Cresppa research center, in dialogue with similar work conducted elsewhere. Given the polemics surrounding « la théorie du genre » initiated in France in 2011, it is particulary necessary to give a full account of the rich themes and issues subsumed under the banner of ‘gender studies’.
The opening session will take place in the evening of May 17th at the National Centre for Scientific Research in Paris. The symposium will open with a screening of the film ‘An Alphabet of Feeling Bad’, followed by a debate in the presence of the filmmaker and artist Karin Michalski, and the researcher Ann Cvetkovich who is interviewed in the film.
After the screening and the debate, a keynote by Françoise Vergès on her recent book "Le ventre des femmes" will introduce the themes of the conference.
